My Story: Having grown up in a small rural town, I appreciate the value of grass roots efforts to positively impact a community. In many cases, the process of change begins with only one person who started with one small step. While most people reading this are probably action-oriented and have already become involved in a variety of ways, there are people who want to see changes but are not sure where to begin. Talking about issues can be useful - up to a certain point - then it's considered idle complaining. The key is moving from talking to doing. I made a choice to be an active participant by getting involved on many levels, from local to international, beginning with the interests that mattered to me most. There is something for everyone, whether it's sharing ideas, giving feedback, organizing events, folding letters, or making phone calls. Attend a local meeting, contact an elected official, talk to your neighbors, send an email, write a letter, or join networking groups like this to begin the process. I urge those who want to be involved to get started by taking one small step.
