My Story: This year is momentous for two reasons--the election, and I will turn 50! When I turned 18 in 1976, I cast my first vote for President Jimmy Carter--one of only two Democratic presidents in my adult lifetime. As a Florida Democrat, I am accustomed to working for change from outside the box. My political hero was Senator/Governor Lawton Chiles--I would have walked to the ends of the earth for that man. He was, like myself, a staunch advocate for children's issues and maternal/child health, and I was proud to serve on one of his Healthy Start advisory committees. I believe that the negative tone of modern politics discourages the best people for the job from running for office, and I believe that the only way to solve this problem is to change the nature of politics itself. For this and for countless other reasons, I support Barack Obama for President in 2008.
