My Story: I have been a supporter of Barack Obama since the summer of 2007 when I first heard him speak. When I researched his stance on the issues, I realized that they were almost identical to my own. As time has gone on, and thousands more have found themselves inspired by this eloquent speaker, his opponents have used this to attack him, claiming that his speeches are full of empty promises and rhetoric. I contemplated this and wondered if it was possible that I had been really supporting someone based solely on their ability to speak eloquently and stir emotion. Then it hit me like a thunder bolt! All of the nay-sayers who claim that he doesn't have the experience or ability to follow through on were missing the point entirely. Before even being appointed as the democratic nominee he ALREADY HAS GIVEN BACK WHAT BUSH STOLE FROM US....REAL PATRIOTISM AND THE REMINDER THAT THIS COUNTRY REALLY DOES BELONG TO US (not to "the decider", as Bush has referred to himself) Barack Obama is not making the political promises that others are making...he's calling on US, Americans, to join together, get involved, make our voices heard and contribute to the changes that are necessary in order to make this a country that we can be proud of again! After 9/11 I felt a patriotism and unity with the rest of the country that I had never before known. Bush stole that from me and made it clear to most of America that he didn't care what we thought, he alone would determine what would be done in our name. Whether Barack Obama wins the nomination or not, he has awakened something that was long dormant inside of us....our love of this country.
