Immigration Reform Should Keep Families Together

Comprehensive immigration reform should make it possible for families to be reunited and stay together. Under current immigration laws, many families are forced to wait decades to be reunited with their loved ones. Due to the serious visa backlog, many have waited years to come over even after their visas have been processed and made available. More than 1.5 million Asians are caught in the backlog. The path to citizenship, especially for those who already have family members in the states, needs to be clearly laid out and capable of being completed within reasonable time frames. For the Asian American and Pacific Islander community, real immigration reform will mean laws that allow family members to immigrate to America in a standard amount of time. Urge Republicans to pass sensible immigration reform that shows compassion for families who have been separated, and makes the path to citizenship one that is clearer and fairer.
