Don't Throw Away Money Intended for Farmers!

Americans support a safety net for our nation's farmers, particularly those who operate their own family farms, yet the federal government has paid out $1.3 billion in subsidies for rice and other crops to individuals who do not farm at all. Because of this system, which was intended to replace farm subsidies, individuals are receiving payments to live on land that was once farmed, even if they do not farm on the land. We need to protect America's long history of farming by giving farm subsidies only to true farmers.

The system of farm pay outs you created in the 1996 Freedom to Farm bill is harming farmers. Over $1.3 billion in subsidies have been given to non-farmers, hurting those Americans who truly deserve assistance. This is wrong, and you must work to fix this.
