Keep Social Security Safe!

Social Security faces a long term funding shortfall, which many conservatives have seized upon to declare we need to privatize the system. But privatization would actually shorten the life of Social Security, while increasing the deficit and cutting benefits. Democrats believe we need solutions for the eventual funding shortfall, however, we don't believe in risking retirement security on the stock market. We can afford to keep our promise to seniors - a secure retirement - while finding a better way to secure the funds needed to provide this. Democrats will stop any plan to privatize Social Security, in whole or in part.

Privatization is not the answer to Social Security's problems. Seniors have invested in this system throughout their careers and counted on this money as an investment towards their retirement. We can afford to keep our promise to seniors - a secure retirement - while finding a better way to secure the funds needed to provide this. Privatization is not just reckless and risky - it will actually shorten the life of Social Security. You need to find a plan that will work for all Americans.
