DNC on Maryland Primary Elections

DNC Chair Tom Perez issued the following statement congratulating the Democratic nominees in Maryland’s primary races:

“Congratulations to all of tonight’s Democratic nominees in Maryland. This exciting slate of Democratic candidates will fight for our state’s working families. And, with the record-breaking early vote turnout we witnessed, it’s clear that Maryland is hungry for Democratic leadership.

“Maryland voters know that while Governor Larry Hogan puts the interests of corporations and lobbyists first, Democrats like Ben Jealous, Senator Ben Cardin, Angela Alsobrooks, Jesse Colvin, and David Trone share their values. Larry Hogan has spent his time in office refusing to stand up to the Trump administration’s attacks on working families, allowing Maryland’s public school rankings to slip each year, and failing to create jobs for Marylanders — letting the state fall to last in the region for job creation. Ben Jealous will go to bat for Maryland families. He will fight to bring good-paying jobs to the state. He understands that every child deserves an excellent public education. And he knows that access to quality, affordable health care should be a right for all, not a privilege for the wealthy few.

“The DNC was proud to invest $85,000 in the Maryland Democratic Party to support the state party’s organizing efforts. We look forward to continuing to partner with the Maryland Dems to lift Democratic candidates up and down the ticket to victory in 2018. Maryland voters know that Democrats have their backs and share their values, and we know Maryland is ready to organize to turn more seats blue in November.”
