DNC Statement on Court Ruling Extending Voter Registration Deadline

WASHINGTON – DNC Interim Chair Donna Brazile issued the following statement:

“This federal court ruling is a major victory for voting rights in Florida, where Hurricane Matthew recently made it difficult for some residents to register. Registering and voting should be as easy as possible for eligible voters. Thanks to a concerted effort led by Democrats, the people of Florida now have until October 18th to register and join the millions of Americans who will cast their ballots on or before November 8th.

“Democrats believe that we solve our nation’s problems with more democracy, not less. That’s why our platform endorsed the boldest and most pro-voting agenda in our party’s history – calling for expanding early voting and vote-by-mail, implementing universal automatic voter registration and same-day voter registration, ending partisan and racial gerrymandering, and making Election Day a national holiday.
