THE LATEST: Trump’s Policy: Babies Forcibly Taken, Parents In Crisis, Families Broken Up Forever

The more we learn about Trump’s family separation policy, the worse it gets. Now we’ve learned that young children are being forcibly separated from their parents and sent to “tender age” shelters, where they may never see their families again. Trump can stop this at any point by rescinding his policy of forcibly breaking up families.

The AP reports that Trump created “tender age” shelters described as “playrooms of crying preschool-age children in crisis.”

Associated Press: “Trump administration officials have been sending babies and other young children forcibly separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border to at least three ‘tender age’ shelters in South Texas, The Associated Press has learned. Lawyers and medical providers who have visited the Rio Grande Valley shelters described play rooms of crying preschool-age children in crisis.”

Facilities like those used to shelter separated families have been plagued by allegations of poor conditions and inhumane treatment.

NPR: “Such facilities have been criticized before for poor conditions and reports of abuse and inhumane treatment, including a number of allegations the CBP strongly denies.”

CBS News: “Southwest Key Programs, a non-profit that operates at least 16 immigrant children shelters in Texas, has been cited for about 150 health violations by state inspectors in the last two years, including for delays in medical care and instances of inadequate supervision.”

Now we know that there is no clear plan to reunite families. Trump’s policy could even lead to families being broken up forever.
