Big Picture Responsibilities:

The Press Assistant serves as the first line of support for the communications department. The majority of responsibilities and activities support the crafting of message or monitoring media around the proposed focus of the day. This position requires flexible hours and eagerness to assist on any task.


Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Drafting press releases, crafting messages & media monitoring.
  • Coordinate and promote communications events.
  • Provide assistance with projects, internal communications and engagement of team resources.
  • Compiling news roundups and news clips in the morning and throughout the day.
  • Providing administrative support to the Communications Department.
  • Managing Communications Department Interns
  • Other duties as assigned by the Communications Director.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
  • Minimum B.A. in Journalism, Communications, Political Science, Public Policy or related field.
  • 1 year of related experience.
  • Requires research skills and an understanding of how past research and polling fits well into a continuing narrative.
  • Best filled by someone who has strong interpersonal skills and wants to interact with a wide variety of people at the DNC in various departments.
  • Excellent writing and research skills.
  • Experience with online communications and research tools.

Various States

Trackers are our eyes and ears, instrumental in the work we do to hold Republicans accountable for their statements and proposals. They are on the ground, attending the Republican events documenting and monitoring the opposition while staying in close contact with the research team in DC. In this position, the Tracker will:

  • Monitor in-state schedules for Republican presidential hopefuls and major surrogates in cooperation with DC Research staff
  • Attend all public events where possible presidential candidates and major surrogates appear and videotape their remarks
  • Immediately flag news-worthy remarks or happenings from the event and quickly transmit the footage to the DC Research office
  • Assist in transcriptions and additional on the ground research needs as requested
  • A reliable vehicle, car insurance and valid driver’s license
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Cunning attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to take direction, ask questions and quickly learn new tasks and databases
  • Self-motivated with the ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Crucial technical skills include the ability to record and transmit digital video and a resourcefulness in making these systems work on the road
  • Possess a strong political instinct and knowledge of current political events and policy and ability to become well-versed in candidate’s statements
  • Must maintain calm under pressure, be both assertive and respectful enough to get into Republican events, and feel comfortable videoing them
