Chris Van Hollen was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2016 after more than two decades of serving Marylanders in the state House of Delegates and the United States Congress. In the state House, he focused on environmental issues, improving education, and reducing gun violence. Once in Congress, Chris became a Democratic leader in securing the passage of the Affordable Care Act and Wall Street Reform and in fighting back against the Tea Party budget. He prioritized protecting investments in transportation, education, and programs that help the American families that need it the most. Senator Van Hollen is committed to fighting everyday to ensure that the United States lives up to its promise of equal rights, equal justice, and equal opportunity for all its citizens. He attended Swarthmore College, the John F. Kennedy School of Public Policy at Harvard, and night school at Georgetown University Law Center. Chris lives in Kensington with his wife, Katherine, and their three children.
